Democratic Republic of Sào Tomé and Príncipe joins ARIPO
With effect from 19 August 2014, the Democratic Republic of Sào Tomé and Príncipe will become a member of ARIPO.
Sào Tomé and Príncipe deposited its Instrument of Accession to ARIPO on the 19 May 2014 for the Harare Protocol. Sào Tomé and Príncipe becomes the 18th member state party to the Harare Protocol (patents, industrial designs and utility models).
It will therefore be possible to designate Sào Tomé and Príncipe in an ARIPO application filed on or after 19 August 2014.
Sào Tomé and Príncipe is also a PCT Contracting State (from 8 July 2008). The Sào Tomé and Príncipe Law on Industrial Property does not refer specifically to PCT or ARIPO but has the stipulation that: The provisions of any international treaty relating to patents, industrial models or designs, collective trademarks and indications of source or appellations of origin, of which Sào Tomé and Príncipe is a party, are applicable and, in the case of divergence with the provisions of this Law they supersede the national provisions.
