Gambia: IP Registry re-opens and is processing applications
The IP Registry in Gambia has now re-opened following the recent political turmoil. There may be some delays as Registry staff settle back into their normal routine, but it is essentially business as usual.
The unfortunate political developments in Gambia have been well publicised generally. In late 2016 the president, Yahya Jammeh, was defeated in an election by coalition leader Adama Barrow. Although Jammeh initially accepted defeat he subsequently changed his mind, claiming that the election had been ‘fraudulent and unacceptable’. Leaders of other West African states such as Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana have been trying to persuade Jammeh to step down after 22 years at the helm. Mr Jammeh has finally gone into exile and the political situation is now stabilising.
