Categories of Trade Marks:

There are provisions for the registration of COLLECTIVE, CERTIFICATION, SERIES and SERVICE MARKS.

There are no provisions for the registration of DEFENSIVE MARKS.


The International Classification of goods and services applies.

A single application may cover any number of classes of goods and/or services.

Documents required:

A. New Applications:

  • Power of Attorney, simply signed
  • Confirmation as to whether the trade mark is in use in Jamaica
  • Priority document (if applicable) with verified English translation
  • Ten prints, except for word marks in ordinary type

B. Renewals:

  • No documentation required

C. Assignments/Mergers:

  • Deed of Assignment or other instrument of title, signed before a Notary Public

D. Change of Name:

  • Certificate of Change of Name

E. Change of Address:

  • No documentation required

F. Licences/Registered Users:

  • Power of Attorney from Licensee, simply signed 
  • Licence Agreement, signed before a Notary Public 
  • Form 20, simply signed in duplicate by both the Licensor and Licensee
